  • I’m going to Prologin final ! (list here).
  • PH01′s teacher is an infinite source of fun (and he works on some computer-related researches, great).
  • Did the pole commission for Lolut this week. Productive meeting. Some good things already done.
  • General refactoring for DBus-Explorer, UI should be much better too. Not yet in public repository.

The bad :

  • Got a bad road contravention, feeling bitter.
  • General sentimental disillusion (or, how to have a bad timing during a party). It sucks…

General fact :

Pingback for Antti’s post. Usually, much of my hacking time is spent at home. I like the familiar sight of my badly tided desk and posters disseminated on the walls. Working in an animated place (like the MDE at UTBM) is also a good way to get things done with simple tasks (i.e. no design) for me. However, a constant variable is the absolute need for music in the background (see my last.fm page to get an idea).

It’s also the end of my first semester at UTBM (except for the finals exams that will take place in three weeks) which was filled with new and interesting meeting. I hope it will be the same for the semester to come !

I also took advantage of holiday to fill in my application for Prologin a French algorithmic contest. I will also try to complete what I started or brainstormed during this six-month period like finishing DHT integration in Monotorrent, adding some bits I have been thinking of in D-Bus Explorer and toying with Clutter for a Lolut’s project.

And finally, as I will probably be too busy (or lazy :-P ) in the next couple of days to do anything on the blog, I wish everybody in advance a nice Christmas and New year.

  • Caught a damned cold. Feel like my head has been smashed on a wall. Drop in productivity.
  • Implementing DHT stuff for MonoTorrent. Work in progress but routing tables are already implemented.
  • In the meantime coding a little CoverFlow-like Gtk# widget without OpenGL for my Mono kickstart at school. Hope I will have my Mono shirt from shana before the event ;) .

    • Yay today I passed my last written exam for the Baccalauréat. Physics/Chemistry was terrific but I found Math easy (which is good because my final mark will depend mostly on this exam mark). Now it just let some practical and oral tests in the following week but it’s not big deal : meaning I will much more time to work on what I like :P .
    • I found some time to add new features to Circ like a revamped parser infrastructure and now Circ take account of its conf file. I pushed my early work on the mirror but it’s still very buggy so I don’t recommend that you upgrade.
    • For all Ubuntu performance tuning fan out of there you should try these set of scripts : http://gnomefiles.org/app.php?soft_id=1397 . Basically they remove whitespaces and such from your Gnome’s XML files which improve speed launch of your app and their memory usage.
    • Monodevelop 0.14 is out with all the juicy features I described there and more. Yesterday I just discovered that you can know generate automagically properties from a field via the right-click menu. Terrific
    • I’m wondering what are the capabitilities of this Thrust thing and if it would run fine on Mono.Xna. Will test it when I find time.
    • Tomorrow I have to go to some sort of meeting to be introduced to the job I will make during this summer. Hu who found the dumb idea to make me wake up for 9am when I just finished my exams and when I’m going to a friend’s party this evening …

  • I passed my philosophy exam today. I took some obscure subject about desire and its limit
  • I did some cleanup work on both Circ and NGenerator. I pushed the stubs of CodeScheme, the CodeDOM replacement I will use for NGenerator, on the GIT mirror. I gave Circ some love in form of a new parser infrastructure which will yield much less temp string and be faster (not yet pushed).
  • shana gets some work done on the Winforms’ WebBrowser control for Mono. She had to P/Invoke code from Mozilla C++ codebase and thus write C wrapper by hand with Visual Studio 2003. Poor shana :’) . –> http://worldofcoding.blogspot.com/2007/06/now-where-did-i-put-my-type.html

  • I managed to get VirtualBox running on my system and I installed Windows XP on it. Now I don’t have to boot anymore in Windows to use some .NET tools, that’s so cool :D .
  • Upgraded to the newly released 3.4.2 version of OpenBox. Today I accidentally logged with Metacity and I saw how much OpenBox is better in term of rapidity and lightness :P

    • I felt like testing new stuff today and my choice was Openbox ! I’m currently running it in my Gnome session and it’s bother quicker, more responsive than Metacity while keeping Gnome advantage (like native look of my Gnome application). Go on try it, it’s damn easy.
    • Dell has started to provide Ubuntu PCs to the masse even if European customers will have to wait this summer to know if they can buy Ubuntu boxes.
    • Stumbled open this article of the MoMa programmer that shows of to port Winforms applications to Mono. A good starting point if you want to do this kind of thing.
    • A good reflection which extend the sacro-saint principe of « premature optimization is the root of all evil » and the idea of simplicity/readability over performances. That won’t prevent me to write some performance tuning articles for C# this summer though (well if laziness don’t fall to early on me :D )
    • A friend blog post (see below for the blog link) introduced me to the concept of ZUI. It would be interesting to see this concept applied to a IRC client like mine (does it improve usability and productivity ?). So far I poked at the Piccolo toolkit which AFAIK limited to Winforms interop for now.

      • Dans à peu près deux semaines maintenant ça sera la première épreuve du Baccalauréat. J’essaie de réviser mais quand on a envie de programmer ou de lire des trucs ça devient difficile :) .
      • Début de semaine épuisant avec un contrôle de math mardi où j’ai complètement séché sur deux questions de proba qui étaient pourtant toute conne et un bac blanc de physique mercredi après-midi où à cause de l’oubli d’un %µ£ »de prof dans la consigne je me suis cassé le c** à redémontrer une équa diff à partir du théorème de conservation de l’énergie mécanique.
      • J’ai trouvé le temps de upper les photos des lycéen Finlandais qui sont venus logés chez nous la semaine dernière. Ca n’intéressera probablement pas la plupart des gens qui viennent se perdre ici mais bon à tout hasard c’est ici (au moins ça devrait faire apparaitre l’album dans Google :P ).
      • Quel bordel quand même les cibles de déploiements dans la version actuelle de Monodevelop (svn), avec les Autotools qui foirent et les dépendances inutiles qu’ils rajoutent faut rester accrocher :) . J’ai posté un rapport de bug.
      • Je suis passé bien à côté mais Mono est sortie en version 1.2.4 dernièrement avec les nouvelles fonctionnalités C# 3 dont j’ai parlé précédemment et d’autre goodies sympas.
      • J’apparais dans le del.icio.us de quelqun oO, quand on ajoute ça au fait que à cause d’un de mes billets je me suis retrouvé presque « par accident » dans le blogroll d’un gros blog ça fait bizarre :D .
      • Pour que ça soit définitivement bordélique on va glisser une QoTD de asmanur : « Error: Smiley overflow. » (background : le gars est un boulet notoire qui rafolent des smileys, forcément faillait bien que ça nous tappe sur le système, post accessible ici)
